Radical timetable change

HAVE you ever stood on the platform at Barry Railway Station and wondered when the next train would arrive?

At present train timetables in the Vale do not follow any particular pattern - but from Sunday, December 11 all this is set to change as Arriva Trains Wales introduces its new Standard Pattern Timetable.

In what they describe as "the most radical timetable change in Welsh history", almost all services between 7am and 7pm will follow a regular pattern.

In other words, if your train leaves at 9.10am then subsequent departures of that service will also leave at ten minutes past the hour.

The timetable was developed after an 18-month public consultation process, which included publishing the entire draft timetable on the company's website for comment.

The layout has also been revamped so passengers can see at a glance all the information they need, including more clearly marked bus connections.

Managing director of Arriva Trains Wales, Graeme Bunker, is delighted with the new timetable, which will affect rail services throughout Wales and the border counties.

"This is good news for our customers," he said.

"They tell us that arriving on time is the most important part of their journey. By reorganising the train timetable we will be able to improve the punctuality of our trains and minimise the knock-on effect of any disruption to the network."

Mr Bunker announced that CCTV would be installed on all trains by the end of next summer.
