TWO Barry mums are so committed to raising money to help their sick children that they are prepared to scare themselves silly for the night.
Ceri Williams and Clare Lipscombe, and 12 other fearless adults, will be participating in a spine-chilling overnight stay at the haunted St Briavel's Castle in Gloucestershire on November 12.
Their aim is to raise at least 1,400 to support research into cystic fibrosis, the genetic illness which affects Ceri's 11-year-old son Christopher, and Clare's daughter Courtney, aged eight.
Ceri explained: "The Cystic Fibrosis Trust suggested to us the idea of staying in the castle, and we thought it would be a great idea. We need to raise 1,400.
"There are 14 of us, so it shouldn't be so hard, except that we have always relied on our friends and families to sponsor us in the past, and sometimes I think that gets too much.
"So now we're appealing to the public to help us."
During the fundraisers' Fright Night, the group will be expected to stay awake, speak to mediums, and watch out for ghosts.
But for Ceri, nothing will be as scary as the abseil she completed two years ago!
She said: "We keep fundraising because it keeps us going and gives us a sense of achievement.
"Cystic fibrosis is hard for the children. They have to take 30 tablets a day, as well as nebulizers and puffers and daily physio.
"Eight-year-olds and 11-year-olds want to be out playing with their friends, not inside with nebulizers and puffers. But they don't moan, it's second nature to them."
Ceri and Clare would like to thank Barry Island Primary School, Ysgol Gymraeg Gwaun Y Nant and St Richard Gwyn Roman Catholic High School who have recently raised money for the Cystic Fibrisis Trust.
If you would like to sponsor Ceri and Clare's stay at the castle, please contact Ceri on 01446 402896.
