Barry FC enjoy their first win

ELEC-TEC 3

BARRY FC 5

AFTER Barry FC"s two previous disappointments at Jenner Park, the new team gave a marvellous performance against a physical Elec-Tec side at the Buttrills, in a Vale of Glamorgan Premier Division match.

Another decent turn-out of fans feared the worst within the first ten minutes, though, when the home team scored a tremendous goal from a shot from outside of the Barry penalty box.

Barry kept pressing, however, and their pressure resulted in an almost carbon copy goal of the one scored on the opening day of the season away to Llantwit.

A low cross was floated into the Elec-Tec goal area and an unmarked Ben Taylor headed the ball past the keeper for both his and the club"s second goal this season.

At 1-1, Barry looked a different side, and within a minute of the restart they were 2-1 up when an error in the Elec- Tec defence resulted in an own goal.

Again, immediately from kick-off Barry pressed forward and a vicious shot on goal rebounded off the Elec-Tec crossbar.

The second half began in much the same vein and, cruelly, perhaps, Elec-Tec scored another own goal to gift Barry a 3-1 lead.

It was now end-to-end stuff and Elec-Tec dragged the score back to 3-2 when the Linnets were still mentally celebrating their lead.

The home side were now on a mission, and only minutes later some fantastic defence-splitting passing brought about the equalising goal. If nothing else, the game was proving to be great entertainment.

Things settled down for the next 20 minutes until Ben Taylor again popped up with another goal to give Barry a handy 4-3 lead with only ten minutes remaining.

Shortly afterwards though, some petulance saw him given a second yellow card and he was forced to depart the pitch.

Apparently not fazed by the club"s top-scorer having to leave the field of play, Barry carried on regardless, and were awarded the fifth and final goal when Nathan Norten produced some clever work on the right side of the goal area and shot past the goalkeeper.

It was a physical affair undoubtedly, and Barry appeared to cope better than they did against Master Mariner the week before, when fans were disappointed with the lacklustre performance.

However, that"s the first win under the belt - and an important one, proving that Barry have the ability to compete well, even at this early point in their history.

* Barry FC"s next game is away at Sully this Saturday, ko 2.15pm.
