A VALE councillor is demanding to know why there has been no progress on the building of a caf quarter along Barry's Waterfront.
A caf quarter was included in the original Waterfront development plan but so far only flats, houses and a retail park have been built.
Cllr Rob Curtis has called on Associated British Ports, the Welsh Development Agency and Vale Council planners to appear before the economy and environmental scrutiny committee to answer questions on this matter.
He said: "When the plans for the Waterfront development were first put before councillors and the people of Barry, one of the main features was the development of a caf-come-restaurant quarter.
"But nearly ten years since the start of the development there is no sign of it.
"The people of Barry are fed up with more and more exclusive flats and houses being built on the Waterfront.
"We have a once-in-a-generation chance to build a brighter more attractive Barry. We must not squander this opportunity to shape a more prosperous future."
Associated British Ports (ABP), who own the land, said: "We are committed to developing a high quality mixed-use scheme at Waterfront Barry.
"Since its inception in March 1994, the site surrounding the port's Number One Dock has been transformed into a thriving community with over 100m of investment.
"The next phase in the development will incorporate marketing part of the site for leisure amenities including a restaurant or pub.
