Driver critical after car smash

A 17-YEAR-OLD girl is fighting for her life after the car she was driving was in collision with a bus shelter.

The incident occurred at around 10.40pm on Monday on the A4050 Port Road East, Barry. The girl was driving a silver Renault Clio.

A fire service spokesman said she was thrown clear of her car, and sustained head and back injuries.

Firefighters and paramedics stabilised her and extinguished the flames coming from the car.

The girl was taken to the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, where she was still said to be in a critical condition at the time of going to press.

South Wales Police are appealing for witnesses to contact their collision unit on 029 2022 2111.
