CWM WELFARE 2
THE PITCH at Beddau for Sully Sports AFC's South Wales Senior League Division One match left a lot to be desired, with long grass and old grass on top, and the two teams struggled to pass the ball.
The play was a little scrappy, but most of the chances in the first half fell to Sully, who used the sloping pitch to their advantage. Drew Fayiha, though continually harassed by the Cwm defence, made two good chances and was unfortunate not to open the score.
With Adam Govier and Craig Ryan dominating, Sully finished the half the better team, but without a goal to show for their pressure. Slick passing by a good Cwm team led them to create early chances in the second half, but it was Sports who led when Spencer Lamb curled in a free kick. Cwm replied quickly and a deflected shot gave them the equaliser.
With both teams tiring on the sapping pitch, Sports thought they had won the game when Adam Govier met Richard Yarr's fine free kick to head them in front in injury time.
But incredibly the referee found nine minutes of extra time and with the last kick of the game, a panicking Sports gave away the goal that cost them a deserved win over an excellent Cwm outfit.
This Saturday, Sports are in Bruty Cup action at Swanbridge when they entertain Trebanog Rangers (players report for 1pm).
SULLY SPORTS 6
PARK VETS 1
In a sporting Vale of Glamorgan League Divi-sion Two game, the Vets met their counterparts from the Park, and the younger Vets from Sully were the winners as some old friends opposed each other.
Dan Cooper was the tormentor as he kept up his leading goalscorer tally with another hat-trick.
SWANBRIDGE STARS 4
INTER LEISURE 4
Stars were not up to scratch in this Lazarou Sunday League game. Donning a new kit sponsored by Velosword Builders, their play did not match their appearance and they struggled for dominance.
Stars goals in this topsy-turvy game were scored by Anthony Connell (2) and Craig Brunt (2).
This Sunday, Stars meet old rivals Tiger Bay at Butetown Park.
It should not be one for the faint-hearted.
