VALE of Glamorgan Assembly Member Jane Hutt has welcomed representatives of the DARA St Athan workforce to the National Assembly and to discussions with First Minister Rhodri Morgan and Economic Development and Transport Minister Andrew Davies.
Speaking to trade union members who marched to the Assembly in Cardiff Bay to raise awareness about their cause, Jane said: "I am appalled and dismayed by the way the DARA workforce at St Athan is being treated by the MOD, and I welcomed the union members to the Assembly to raise their case."
The trade unions are calling on the MOD to reverse its decision to transfer work away from DARA St Athan to MOD bases in England.
Jane added: "The skills are here in St Athan - they always have been and this decision will be regretted by the MOD. It is not grounded in rational decision-making, and it is not cost effective. The Welsh Assembly Government has always said that this decision is'wrong' and it continues to argue for it to be overturned."
