Hall "belongs to the people"

Barry Arts Centre has hit out at the managers of Barry's Memorial Hall Theatre, claiming the hall is not being used for the purpose that it was built.

This is the second attack on the hall's management by an amateur dramatics group in a matter of weeks.

In August, the principle of Billboard Ensemble claimed the management were more interested in profits than providing a service to the local community.

The secretary of Barry Arts Centre, Dave Wagner, said: "The hall is not being used as it should be. It should be used for community events such as tea dances, bazaars and dog shows but someone, somewhere has some grandiose idea of professional theatre status."

He added: "The Memorial Hall Theatre is a registered charity and belongs to the people of Barry.

"It should be as much a part of their lives as their back yard or front parlour."
