Gareth is set for stardom with sitcom leading role

A Barry man has landed a lead role in a new ITV sitcom starring Ricky Tomlinson and Amanda Redman.

Gareth Mason, 23, an ex-student of St Richard Gwyn, will play the part of Gavin James in Mike Bassett - a spin-off series of the 2001 film.

Gareth filmed the six-part series in April and May this year and is now looking forward to the screening of the show later this month.

He said: "I'm quite excited about it but I'm also a little nervous as well. If this series is a success then a second may be commissioned."

Prior to filming Mike Bassett, Gareth filmed an episode of Waking The Dead, where he plays the character Russell Tate, this is also due to be aired later this month.
