A BARRY woman has told of her heartache after discovering a mobile phone, which contained the last text message her late husband sent her, had been stolen.
Joanne Davies, of Cwm Barry Way, kept the phone in her handbag, but the bag was stolen from Halfords car park, Barry at around 7.30pm on Thursday, September 1.
Her husband Julian was shot dead in Iraq on June 24, 2004, while providing security for American convoys. He had sent the text message the day before he died.
Joanne said: "My seven-year-old son Matthew had put the bag on the floor of Halfords car park, but I didn't realise. We then drove to Morrisons to get the car washed."
She continued: "As soon as we arrived at Morrisons I realised the bag was missing and drove back to Halfords straight away, but the bag had gone. We had only been gone three or four minutes.
"A man told me he had seen a woman pick-up the bag. She told him she was going to take it to the police station - but never did."
In addition to the mobile phone, the handbag contained a Swiss army knife belonging to Julian and photographs of Matthew with Julian's friends.
