Tense conversion secures the draw

DINAS POWYS 19

BARRY 19

THE VILLAGERS entertained Barry last Saturday in a pre-season friendly on The Common. After a good game that see-sawed between the two sides, the result was a hard-fought draw.

The game was played as three 25 minute periods, with Barry dominating the first period as they scored two good tries to take a 12-0 lead.

The Villagers fought back in the second period with tries by Ed Davies, Adam Williams and Sam Brennan. Rhodri Davies and Adam Williams added conversions to give the Villagers a 19-12 lead.

Adam Williams' try was exceptionally good, as man-of-the-match, outside-half Dominic Griffiths went on a dazzling run before putting Adam away to score in the corner.

Barry fought back in the final period and scored a try to put themselves within two points of The Villagers.

The Barry fly half held his nerve to score the conversion to bring the scores level, leaving an exciting climax to the game, as both sides tried to break the deadlock.

This was an encouraging game for The Villagers against a side one division higher, and with several players to come back in, the result bodes well for the forthcoming season.

The first league game for Dinas Powys is on The Common on Saturday, September 3 against Penarth.
