PLANS to restore a Barry park back to its former glory are back on track, according to the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Victoria Park in Cadoxton was earmarked for restoration work back in August 2003, when the council was awarded a 1.2m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund - but so far not much work has been done.
But the council is adamant all this is about to change, saying a planning application has been submitted for a new park manager's building and the job of park manager has been advertised.
In 2003 the council had promised to restore the park's lost heritage and give it back to the community as a place to use and enjoy.
At the time, council leader Jeffrey James said: "I welcome this grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund - it is fantastic news for Barry.
"Our application was to restore Victoria Park to its former glory and this grant will secure public use and enjoyment of this important landmark in Cadoxton area for many years to come."
A Victorian bandstand has already been built in the park and the council has plans to reconstruct boundary railings, gates and park benches in the style of the late Victorian/Edwardian era. They also hope to resurface paths and plant new borders and flowerbeds.
