CADETS from 372 Barry ATC Squadron visited the International Centre Aerospace Training (ICAT) at British Airways Maintenance Cardiff.
The 12 cadets were given an insight into the working of engines and aircraft, and they also had the chance to stand in front of a Boeing 747 engine and look through it. They also had the opportunity to see the working of an aircraft when it rolls, pitches and yaws (the axis at which an aircraft turns) and the principles of this manoeuvre.
To get an insight into the centre's Saturday Engineering Club and other courses and lectures which take place there, the cadets saw the wonders of an active board.
This was used to demonstrate to the cadets the uses of Traffic Alert Collision Avoidance System (TCAS), how the undercarriage is put into position and how to prevent a short circuit.
They learned about the opportunities available to them if they attend the Saturday Club and how it could benefit their career paths.
They were also informed about the Women into Science and Engineering (WISE) programme, which is extremely important to some of the girls on the squadron.
Sgt Bradley said: "Having been on the course myself I can honestly say it was well worth it.
"They gave me an idea about some fantastic options I had never thought about and they were so helpful.
"The cadets had a superb time and they discovered things you just can't picture in your head."
The ATC can offer many other courses including First Aid, Leadership, Communication, and Personal Awareness - all very valuable.
The Squadron also take part in activities such as flying, gliding, target shooting, the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme, marching band, adventure training and many more.
The squadron parade on Mondays and Wednesday between 7 and 9.30pm, behind Adams' funeral Parlour.
