CADETS from 372 Barry squadron hiked a gruelling 15 miles to spend the night at Miskin Campsite - just to hike back the next day!
The cadets began their overnight adventure at Fonmon where they collected their maps and compasses and set off on their five-hour walk.
They headed through areas around Llancadle, St Donats, the A48, the M4 and Llantrisant.
The trip not only gave them experience in walking, but they also had a chance to learn map reading, work together as a team and keep morale high.
These are essential skills for the cadets when undertaking their Duke of Edinburgh award.
They pitched their tents before setting off into the forest where they completed various training exercises in the dark.
All the cadets were then treated to a barbecue and sat around the fire.
Luckily, the weather held out for the cadets during the first day, although during the night the heavens opened and it didn't stop raining until they returned home - but it did not dampen the cadets' spirits.
They are now all looking forward to the next Miskin Adventure, with a Duke of Edinburgh silver group setting off mid-August and a gold group at the end of the month.
Good luck to them all!
