Vale receives double nomination

THE Vale of Glamorgan Council has been shortlisted for two prestigious service awards.

Following on from their success in winning the Award for Business and Biodiversity and being runner-up in the Management Award for Sustainability in the Public Sector at the ARENA Network Wales Environment Awards in Cardiff, the Vale is now keeping its fingers crossed for further good news in the APSE (Association of Public Service Excellence) Awards.

The Vale has been nominated for two awards - Best Community Initiative for the Barry Alleygates scheme (Highway Maintenance) and Best Sustainability/ Environmental Initiative for its Environmental Management System (Visible Services).

Cabinet Member for Visible Services Cllr Geoff Cox said: "To achieve a shortlisting in a national award scheme where are a phenomenal 500 submissions from more than 200 organisations across the country is a marvellous reflection on the efforts of a wide range of employees.

"The awards recognise the work undertaken by councils and their public, private and community sector partners in striving to achieve excellence in different areas. This result already shows the Vale is putting the time, investment and plain hard work into delivering the best possible services.

"We will continue to ensure our efforts are channelled into making the Vale a safer, cleaner and more attractive place."
