Post offices make last delivery

IT WAS the end of an era in Barry on Tuesday when two community post offices shut their doors for good.

The Weston Hill branch near the centre of Barry, and the Cadoxton branch in Vere Street, shut as part of a nationwide programme of closures.

The Cadoxton postmistress, Andrea Buffin, laid on wine, cakes and chocolates for her loyal customers.

She said: "It's a sad loss for the area. It's going to kill the community."

And customer Anita Foley, of Moxon Street, agreed.

She said: "I can't believe it - they've been here so long.

"I feel sorry for the old people - some of them start queuing half-an-hour before the post office opens just to meet people and have a chat."
