Public can see plans for town

MAJOR development proposals for The Waterfront and town centre areas of Barry are to be the subject of a public exhibition.

Organised by officers from the Vale of Glamorgan Council and their consultants, the exhibition on proposals for a Thompson Street footbridge and the Holton Road Public Realm schemes will be held at the Castleland Community Centre on Wednesday and Thursday, August 10 and 11, between 10am and 5pm each day.

Officers will welcome comments on either scheme.

The bridge scheme, designed by the firm Parsons Brinkerhof, will provide a pedestrian link between the town centre and the Holton Reach site on The Waterfront

It will link into the Holton Road Public Realm scheme which is currently the subject of a bid to the Welsh Assembly Government under the Local Regeneration Fund scheme

The Holton Road scheme seeks to introduce a one-way system, improved on-street parking and wider pavements supported by new surfacing and street furniture.

If the grant bid is successful, the works in Holton Road could commence in April, 2006. The bridge is being funded by the council with support from the WDA and Associated British Ports and, subject to planning approval and contracts construction, could commence on site in March, 2006.
