Jenner Park has new home clubs

Barry Town FC will not be allowed to play at Jenner Park this season (2005/06) - but will spend the campaign playing "home" games miles away at the White Tips Stadium in Treforest again.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council rejected Barry Town"s bid to play at the historic stadium last Wednesday.

Adding salt to the club"s wounds, bitter rivals Barry FC - the community club set up by former members of Barry Town Supporters Club - were granted the right to use the ground instead.

New club Barry FC - the Linnets - were set up in protest against Barry Town owner Stuart Lovering, after a series of high-profile disagreements between the two parties.

Barry FC will share Jenner Park with Cadoxton Cons Football Club and Barry College.

Mr Lovering is unhappy with the decision, but still believes it is just a matter of time before Barry Town return to Jenner Park.

He said: "I"m not worried, as it is only going to be temporary. I still think Barry FC will close in a few months."

He added: "Everyone in Barry and the Vale knows that Barry Town should be playing at Jenner Park.

"It is a slap in the face for Barry Town, its supporters, the people of Barry, the Academy, the children of Barry and the Vale, and the children and teachers of Barry Comprehensive School. The council appears only interested in giving Jenner Park to the highest bidder - presumably if Coco the Clown and his chimpanzee troupe offered £50 more than any other team, Jenner Park would be used by a bunch of chimps."

Barry FC meanwhile have been celebrating the council"s decision.

Manager Ashley Griffiths said: "It"s marvellous news that Barry FC has been given use of Jenner Park."

But he added: "I wish Barry Town well for the season. I don"t think there should be any more animosity between the two clubs."

*Barry FC is currently looking for players. If you think you have what it takes to play for the Linnets, then go along to Butrills Field on Wednesday at 6.30pm for a trial.
