Golfers break their duck in local derby

Brynhill plays St Athan on a home and away basis for the Geoffrey Nicholls Cup each year.

Until this year, Brynhill had always'come second'.

This year was different: Brynhill broke their duck.

Playing the first match at home, the team played well and took a considerable points lead to the return at St Athan, where their solid performance assured them that the silverware will spend the next year at Brynhill.

There were several notable Brynhill victories in the return match, but the undoubted stars of the day were Derek Coombes and Derek Tattersall.

Indeed, Derek Coombes had four birdies, which is quite an achievement for a player of his handicap.

There is great friendliness between the members of the teams and several players have played for both clubs.

In fact, the cup for the event was put up by Geoffrey Nicholls, a former member of Brynhill, now playing at St Athan.

Players from both teams look forward to next year's clash.
