Memories from the Barry and District News of 50 and 25 years ago

* Alastair Parker won the Shipwrights' Cup for the boys' high jump competition at the recent junior schools' sports with a jump of 4ft 8in.

* Many local television viewers may have recognised an 18-year-old girl they saw on their screens on Sunday evening in a programme called "Holiday Hotel."

She was Miss Eira Roberts, daughter of Mr and Mrs E Roberts of Regent Street, who appeared in a section of the show called "Summer Show Girl Competition," a fortnightly beauty competition held at Blackpool.

* On Sunday, George Harris led cyclist members of the Barry Youth Hostels Association group on a tour of the Vale of Glamorgan.
