Dog saves cat"s life

A DOG saved a cat from being mauled to death as their owner watched in horror.

Jemima the dog is a border collie cross. Her owner Shn Prothero, of Holmes Street, Cadoxton, also has three cats - and two of them, Marmaduke and Garfield, used to follow along when Shn took Jemima for her daily walks. But one of those walks ended in horror as Shn turned into Western Street and saw Marmaduke being pinned to the ground by a dog.

She was horrified and shouted at the owner to call the dog off, but Jemima saved the day - and the cat's life - by getting in between the other dog and Marmaduke.

Marmaduke received several punctures to his belly which needed treatment - sadly he has run away and Shn has been unable to find him since.

Shn, a 52-year-old mother-of-three, said: "I was horrified. What would happen if that dog got hold of a child?

"My friend had her cat killed and she is concerned others have been killed too.

"There used to be lots of cats walking up and down the street but now it is rare to see one."

Shn reported the incident to the police and they passed the matter to Environmental Health at the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
