Scouting to nab drivers

ON Saturday, July 2, I attended the annual Scouts and Guides Fete held at Romilly Park - an event organised to raise funds for the various groups in Barry and the Vale.

Bearing in mind that these groups could not function at all without the dedication of volunteers who give their valuable time and effort to provide the children of the area with the excellent opportunities afforded by the existence of these scout and guide groups, I was disgusted to see two traffic wardens busy scouring the area around Romilly Park, seeking every possible opportunity of booking people who had attended to support such a worthwhile cause.

The fete must be one of the main fundraisers of the year, organised for months on end and run by these volunteers and numerous helpers.

Children and young people of the area would be far worse off if it were not for an event such as this to raise the funds to keep their groups going and provide an opportunity for the variety of activities made available to them.

I think it was a very sad sight to see these two traffic wardens trying their hardest to book the vehicles of those who attended to support this very worthwhile cause.

Traffic wardens scouring the area that afternoon was nothing but a contrived money-making opportunity for the authorities, taken at a community event held only for the benefit of children and young people of the area. My sympathy goes out to anyone who suffered at the hands of such a blatant and deliberate exercise.
