EXTRACTS from the Barry and District News of July 14, 1955:

*Among 61 Welsh pharmacists who have received greetings from the Pharmaceutical Society, upon completing upwards of 50 years service, are Dr P D Richards of Mount Pleasant, Cadoxton.

* The Rev Frederik H Kaan, a Dutch minister, was ordained and inducted at Windsor Road Congregational Church on Wednesday week.

* A new year in the life of the Barry Rotary Club was inaugurated on Thursday, when the president, Rotarian Donald White, a local dentist, was installed into office by his predecessor, Rotarian B A Lobley.

* Twelve-years-old Graham Jones, son of Mr and Mrs T H Jones, of Amherst Crescent, Barry Island, is one of many amateur artists who had an audition at the New Theatre, Cardiff, on Wednesday week for an autumn amateur talent week.

* The budding blueprint for Barry's future has come under fire in a report by South Glamorgan's planning chief - though Mr A J Plant snipes at, rather than bombards, the draft Barry District Plan.

* Shades of ancient Rome's imperial power have been evoked in Barry with the discovery at the Knap of what appears to have been a major base for the Roman fleet.

* Present at the garden party given at Buckingham Palace recently by H M the Queen, were Mr and Mrs Thomas E Davies, of Westward Rise, Barry.

* Hauls worth a staggering total of £8,000 have been stolen by thieves in Barry during the last week or so.
