EXTRACTS from the Barry and District News of July 7, 1955:

*A former pupil of the Barry Boys" Grammar School, Brian Lloyd Davies, has been awarded his BA degree in philosophy (second class honours) at the University of Durham.

*After 35 years" service with the Aberthaw and Bristol Channel Cement Co Ltd, Mr Arthur Blakemore retired on Thursday, after being in indifferent health since February.

*Master Paul Taylor, of Regent Street, Barry, was awarded third prize for his Pembrokeshire Corgi (Paul"s delight) at a dog show recently held at West Grove, Cardiff.

*Miss Judy Vivian, the Barry ballet dancer, gives a graphic account of the events in Buenos Aires during the Argentine revolution in a letter to her parents Mr and Mrs Vivian Jenkins, of Jenner Road, Barry.

EXTRACTS from the Barry and District News of July 10, 1980:

*A well-known figure in Barry, Flight Sgt John Storey McKenzie, received the BEM in the Queen"s Birthday Honours.

*The last of six survivors of the sinking of HMS Invincible at Jutland, Rhoose resident Bryan Gasson, has received a Royal invitation to attend the commissioning of the latest Invincible at Portsmouth.

*The Dinas Powys Association Football Club have been granted a 21-year-licence, by the Vale council"s Leisure Services Committee, on the Murch playing field, in Dinas Powys.

*Leading figures in local industry and government this week produced a mixed bag of hope and gloom for the people of Barry and district.
