Regatta is plain sailing for Nathan

A BARRY teenager scooped the top prize in the Barry Yacht Club Youth Regatta held in Barry Dock over the weekend.

Nathan Bailey, aged 14, of Dockview Road - who attends St Cyres School - took home the prestigious Waterfront Cup for achieving the best lap times. Hannah Jones, of Tongwynlais, came second.

Nathan is a member of Cardiff Bay Yacht Club and regularly competes in yachting events all over Europe.

The Regatta was the final one of a series called the Club Youth Racing Circuit, with sailors between the ages of eight and 19 competing from clubs all over South Wales. There were three fleets racing - Optimists for the younger sailors and Toppers and Lasers for the older sailors.

The wind caused a bit of trouble to some of the less experienced competitors, though nearly all of them managed to right their boats after capsizing and carry on racing.

Westbury Homes sponsored the event and company representative Allison Williams presented the prizes.
