Twin towns

I RESPOND to Cllr Shirley Hodges" remarks regarding the friendship pact with Kinsale, Southern Ireland (Barry and District News, Thursday, June 16).

When a twinning arrangement was proposed, Barry Town Council was informed by councillors on both councils - ie the Vale and Barry councils - that we could not twin with any other council owing to the fact that only the Vale Council could twin, and that no monies could be allocated for any other arrangement.

We, as a council, looked at a nil-cost arrangement and came up with the friendship pact, which was opposed around every corner by certain councillors.

On appointing a new Chief Executive we find that twinning is possible, so perhaps Cllr Hodges should ask Vale Council members why they have not supported us in twinning or friendship pacts in the past.

I only hope that all councillors put Barry first.
