Couple cheat death

A CADOXTON couple had a lucky escape last week when lightning struck their home during the early hours of the morning.

Jason Hudson and Sarah Williams, of Brookfield Road, jumped out of bed and ran to a neighbour's house as their upstairs ceiling collapsed around them.

Mr Hudson said: "The lightning hit our house at about 5.45am. We heard alarms going off and then heard an explosion in the spare bedroom. At first I thought the window had been broken."

He continued: "I went to have a look and saw that there was quite a lot of smoke and that the ceiling had come down. I told Sarah to get out straight away.

"We then went over the road to a neighbour's house and called the fire brigade."

Leading Barry fire-fighter John Davies said: "The couple had a very lucky escape. The lightning went straight through the house and knocked out the electricity.
