Bread of health

PUPILS at a Barry primary school were encouraged to use their loaf when family baker Warburtons paid a visit to put the healthy eating message across.

Warburtons school visitors took their healthy sandwich workshop to Holton Primary School, to teach pupils about healthy eating, basic food hygiene and the role of bread in a balanced diet.

Pupils were also given the opportunity to create their own healthy sandwiches at the end of the day based on what they had just learnt.

School visitor Catherine Davies said: "The visits are part of an ongoing initiative to ensure pupils are aware of the nutritional benefits of bread and how it is eaten in different cultures.

"It gives children the chance to understand the bread-making process and the importance of eating a healthy balanced diet.

"The visits are proving a huge success with schools, teachers and pupils."

Mrs Thomas, class 3T teacher, said: "Healthy eating is a key component of the national curriculum, and these workshops are a fun way of learning for pupils.
