*Inspector Tom Howells, who has been in charge of the Barry Police Station since 1948, is to retire on July 15.
*Barry Town footballers leave today to commence their tour of Sweden and Denmark ... and make history, for it is believed they are the first Southern League Club to make a tour abroad.
*Sixteen-year-old Keith Harry, a pupil at Barry Boys Grammar School, son of Mr and Mrs Haydn Harry, of Barry Road, Barry, will receive today (Thursday) the Grand Prior of Wales Badge, the highest award cadets in the St John Ambulance Brigade can gain.
*Three days of anxiety ended on Sunday for Mr and Mrs Vivian Jenkins, of Jenner Road, Barry, when they received a cablegram from their daughter - Judy Vivian, the ballet dancer - saying "Revolution over. Am quite safe and well. Love Judy."

*Two Roman Catholic priests have returned to their local flocks "overawed" by the experience of their 10-minute face-to-face encounter with the Pope.
The brothers, Father Gerald Cullen and Father Richard Cullen, were with their two other priest brothers, two of their sisters (one of them a nun) and their 68-year-old sick mother when the Holy Father received them in Rome.
*Recently William P John of Daniel Street, Barry, made his 50th donation of blood at a session at the Old Pioneers Hall, Beryl Road, and received a gold badge award, presented by the Department of Health.
*Two Barry-born men feature in the Queen"s Birthday Honours List this year - Dr David Arthur Davies and Mr Ernest James Coombes.
