Barry all set for league season

BARRY Football Club were this week accepted into the Vale of Glamorgan League for the coming 2005-06 season.

The community-owned football club became members of the League on Monday night at the League's AGM.

Barry FC spokesman Tim Johnson said: "We are very happy that they have accepted our nomination.

"We have a long term aim of returning football in Barry to the Welsh Premier, the top flight in Welsh football and this is the first challenge which we must face.

"The Vale of Glamorgan League is a strong league, including teams such as last year's champions N&M Construction.

"We hope to put together a strong side which will challenge for honours this season and gain promotion through the pyramid system."

And Barry FC - the Linnets - will hold an open meeting for all supporters of football in Barry next Monday, June 27 at the Castle Hotel, Barry, starting at 7.30pm, following the Supporters' Club AGM which starts at 7pm.

"The purpose of the meeting is to keep people updated and to move forward towards the new season," said Tim Johnson.

"We hope to unveil our new manager, who will be present to answer questions at Monday's meeting and to discuss the forthcoming season.

"The club will be a supporters-owned organisation which is non-profit making and as inclusive as possible.
