TODAY will see the Millennium Stadium put to a slightly different use when Ty Hafan, the children's hospice in Wales, attempts to break the record for the world's longest scarf.
The continuous multi-coloured scarf will be measured using the 100 metre length of the pitch and will completely cover the playing area. The current record stands at 20 miles.
The campaign, which has been running for the last three years, has enlisted the help of knitters from all over Wales and beyond who have knitted their lengths of scarf and sent them in to the appeal office in Barry.
They have also helped to raise a magnificent 60,000 in sponsorship to help the hospice continue its vital work with children who suffer from life-limiting conditions, and their families.
"Apart from the knitters, who have been absolutely fantastic, we would not have got very far without the help from John T Evans Haulage Limited, in Barry, a member of the Palletways network," said Dominic Jenkins, Ty Hafan chief executive.
"Not only have they used valuable storage space in their warehouse to store the bales of knitting, they are also using three of their articulated lorries to transport the scarf to the stadium today for the'big measure-up'."
Ty Hafan is very confident about beating the record.
After the event it will submit the claim to Guinness World Records and will wait to see if the bid to become the new world record holder is successful.
The scarf itself will be officially handed over to Brian Main, chief executive of Feed the Children, before being re-rolled and transported - again by John T Evans Haulage Limited - to their warehouse, where it will be made into blankets.
