THE past week has been very productive for members of Sea View Lads Angling Club.
Jim Wood landed a massive 39lb Tope on the latest boat trip out of Barry. A new club record.
In any other month that fish would have been enough, but during the same week, Sea View Lads member Mark Watson landed a truly exceptional Starry Smoothound of 29lb 8oz.
This fish would have smashed the current Welsh record but, as with Jim's fish, it was returned to fight another day after being photographed and weighed.
The shore fishing has been less productive with only six anglers weighing in on Sunday.
With the exception of Mickey Langford, the crinklies were taught a few lessons by two very young junior members, Jack Doble and Jake Lougher, both of whom shamed their dads with far superior catches, taking second and fourth places respectively.
Bob Messer was runner-up on the boat trip to Jim who weighed in over 60lb, squeezing Kevin Sewell into third place by just 8oz.
Results
1, M Langford; 2, J Doble; 3, A Harris; 4, J Lougher; 5, P Coles; 6, R Green.
Boat: 1, J Wood, 61 lb; 2, B Messer 36 lb; 3, K Sewell, 35 lb 8 oz.
