Improved weather yields results for teams in junior cricket league

THE better weather last week saw nine matches being completed in the League - four at Under 11 and the rest at U13.

Tied at the top of the U11A table are the two Pentyrch teams, the Golds and Maroons, with seven points each. Penarth head the U11B League and also the U15B league, and St Fagans both the U13A and U15A Leagues. Lisvane are top of the U13B League.

The Under 11A League saw Cowbridge U11 beat Cregiau by six wickets. Bethan Moorcroft scored 18 not out and took two wickets for Cowbridge. For Creigiau Alex Moore score 12 not out. St Fagans beat Pentyrch Maroons by 38 runs scoring 293 runs for the loss of only two wickets in their 20 overs.

The Under 11B League saw the Llantwit Major Cavaliers beat Barry Athletic by 10 wickets. Llantwit's L Albrighton took four wickets for 11 runs - three of his victims being in the same over!

Penarth beat Sully by a huge 112 runs scoring 302 for 3 in their 20 overs. A Sims (14no), Rob Jones (14) and H Hudson had figures of 2.1.1.1 and R Ward 2.0.7.2 all for Penarth.

St Fagans beat Pentyrch Bulls by 90 runs. St Fagans batted first and scored 157 for 2 with Ruaidhri Smith (32 retired), Andrew Williams (30 retired), Chris Lawlor (26) and Tomos Innes (28) all contributing to the total. This proved too much for Pentyrch with Michael Grosset and J Boronetti being the best batsman both scoring 14 runs in their total of 67. Chris Lawlor was the pick of the St Fagans bowlers with figures of 3.1.9.2.

The Under 13B League reported a win for Lisvane over Llantwit Major Cavaliers with Lisvane posting 132 for 5. T Atkins (27) and J Williams (33 retired) were the best batsmen and A Burkhard had figures of 4.2.2.3 for Lisvane.

Penarth beat Whitchurch Heath by six wickets in a close game between two evenly matched sides. Penarth Captain Nathan Smith hit the winning runs with two balls left off the 20 overs.

Whitchurch, having been put in to bat, were bowled out in the final over for a total of 85. Dean Reynolds continued his good form with 15 runs.

Matthew Jones and Ashley Vickery were amongst the wickets with a brace each.

The Penarth reply was well paced throughout, the highlight being the 25 scored by 11- year-old Andrew Sims. Creigau beat Barry Athletic by 96 runs with Morgan Norey (30 retired), Alex Taylor (19) & Tom Mouncher (16) being the pick of the Creigiau batsmen. Good bowling figures were achieved by Alex Moore of 4.3.2.1. and Ross Taylor 2.0.2.4. for Creigiau and A Baker 3.0.2.11 of Barry.

Finally, Sully beat Grangetown by four wickets. A Gilliat (12) for Sully and Aaron Smith figures of 4.1.5.1. and B Callow 4.1.4.3.
