Protest over lack of facilities

RHOOSE residents held a Sunday protest at what they see as the lack of amenities provided as part of the Rhoose Point development.

The protest took place at the new railway station, and the Rhoose Village Preservation Group (RVPG) members and other residents were supported by Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman, Mark Hooper.

Mr Hooper said: "I'm backing the villagers all the way.

"By now, the residents of Rhoose Point should be enjoying a golf course, a pub and sports changing rooms.

"These community benefits were negotiated by the council a long time ago, yet they still appear unable to make sure they actually happen.

"The problem is partly the result of a lack of consultation with residents over how to spend money from the developers in the first place.

"It concerns me that lessons haven't been learnt and the mistake is about to be repeated. No-one is talking meaningfully about the projects that could bepaid for by the developerof Rhoose's controversial new housing development.

"I've written to the local ward councillors today, calling on them to start those discussions right away."
