Ex-Barry sports girl in Canada Hall of Fame

A FORMER Barry girl has achieved distinction by becoming the first table tennis player to be inducted into the Sporting Hall of Fame in Oshawa, Canada.

Michelle Qurrey first began playing table tennis at St Helen's Junior School at the age of seven, and played for St Helen's and Barry Central Clubs in the Barry and Cardiff Leagues.

She then moved up to St Cadoc's School (now St Richard Gwyn).

Michelle's family emigrated to Canada when she was 12 years old, and she joined the Scarborough Kings Club in Toronto.

She soon came to the notice of the national coach, former world number five Zoran Kosanovich, and became National Junior Champion at under-13 level, and subsequently at under-17 level.
