Cadets fly across the track

After several weeks of intense training 372 Barry squadron fought for victory at an Athletics competition held in Leckwith Stadium in Cardiff.

The competition involved cadets from all over South Wales and Barry's performance reflected their position with a highly credible top five position.

The cadets had been practising for weeks locally and were geared up for their events.

About 15 cadets attended the competition where they split into five categories.

Six cadets were selected to represent No1 Welsh Wing at the next stage held in RAF Cosford where they will be competing against Cadets from all over Wales and the West.

The six cadets are Cpl Jones, Cpl Bradley, Cdt Price, Cdt Jones, Cdt Bridges and Cdt Simpson, who each took gold at the competition in their various events.

Although these cadets had a taste of glory, the overall result could not have been achieved without the efforts of all the cadets.

Overall the day was a success and the Cadets had a fantastic time.

Cpl Bradley said: 'Everyone enjoyed their day, especially the newer cadets as it was a new experience for them.

'Everyone did really well and it was a triumphant day for Barry.'

Athletics was the last sporting event in a very successful season for Barry.

They took the top spot in many sports this year including Netball, Hockey and Swimming and the squadron is considered the best sporting squadron in Wales and the West.

* The squadron not only takes part in sports but also other activities such as flying, gliding, shooting, The Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and many more. There are vacancies for boys and girls ages 13+ on the squadron. They meet Mondays and Wednesdays, 7pm to 9.30pm. If you are interested call Flt Lt Crandon on 01446 747734 on parade nights.
