Gate fails to keep trouble out

AN alley-gate has been branded'pointless' by residents because there is a large gap which people and vehicles can get through.

The gate off Little Main Street, Cadoxton, was put up three weeks ago and has been left with a gap at the side.

Residents can open and shut the lock-gate with keys, but say there is no way it will stop thieves and unwanted vehicles - the aim if the alley-gate scheme.

Universal Hair Studio on Church Road backs on to the lane which has the gate.

Owner Lynne Nesbit said: "The council has put up a pointless gate.

"It is supposed to stop people going down the lane but it does not.

"I pay my council tax and I expect the money to be spent wisely. What is the point of this gate if there is a gap next to it?

"I think Cadoxton gets a raw deal a lot of the time. We seem to be the poor relations of Barry.

"It is like the council does not care about the area. There is a wall across the road from the shop which has been knocked down and that is still to be replaced.

"The gate must have cost a few thousand pounds to put up, so why was it left unfinished?

"There is not a gate at the end of the lane either. It is possible to cut through to the lane at the back of the shops."
