A DINAS Powys youngster has been selected to play for the Wales under-12 cricket team.
Andrew Leering, of St Andrew's Road, has made it through a rigorous selection process to win national honours.
Andrew plays his club cricket for St Fagans and also represents Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan at county level.
He was chosen for Wales after a three-month selection process which culminated in a two-day trial at Newport, where the final 15 players were decided upon.
Andrew is an all-rounder but renowned as a strong batsman. A week last Sunday he hit 87 not out, of 162 runs, against West Glamorgan in a county match.
Last week representing Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, Andrew scored 67 out of a total of 213 runs against Millfield School.
The youngster will make his Wales debut against Berkshire on May 22 and will represent the principality throughout the summer in a series of three and four-day tournaments.
Andrew's father Rob is originally from Durban in South Africa. Andrew is a pupil at the Cathedral School in Llandaff.
