* At the London University championships on Saturday, David Richards of Barry won the three mile event in 14 mins 11.3 secs, breaking the record by 11.6 secs.
* A week yesterday, the Barry Children"s Choir, under their conductor Miss Margery D Pugh, gave an excellent concert at Bethesda Church, High Street.
* Saturday was a great day in the history of Barry Town Football Club. They won the Welsh FA Cup for the first time by defeating Chester 4-3 in the final replay at Ninian Park.
EXTRACTS from the Barry & District News of May 22, 1980:
* A young Barry girl, 12-year-old Angela Tooze, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Tooze of Gilbert Street, Barry, was runner-up in a recent Blue Peter competition in which contestants had to design a mural for the lounge of the new Sealink ferry the "St Christopher."
* A police officer, Andrew Walter Ralphs, who has spent long periods of his career in Barry, has been promoted sergeant with effect from May 27.
* Mike Thomas, social chairman of Llantwit Major Round Table, presented a cheque for £200 to Cllr Jeff James, the chairman of Rhoose Community Concern.
* A local man, Alan Charles Evans, aged 27, who started his education at Holton Road Junior School and Barry Boys Comprehensive School, is now working for the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd, in Ottowa.
