Mum in desperate home plight

A MUM-OF-TWO is fighting to be re-housed because her children have to sleep in the front room.

Her daughter and son sleep in the living room because there are not enough bedrooms in their council flat in Sladewood House, Gibbonsdown.

One bedroom is occupied by mum Sarah Sherlock and her partner. His daughter Natalie, aged 17, is in the other bedroom.

Sarah's children Ryan, aged 10, and Kacie, aged nine, use temporary fold-away beds.

Kacie said: "It is very uncomfortable for me and my brother to have to sleep here.

"We are on the ground floor. Whenever someone wants to get into a flat upstairs the bell wakes us because it is so loud.

"It is not good because we are tired and find it difficult to get up for school each day."

Mum Sarah, aged 33, said: "We have been told that the room is not suitable for them to stay in because there is a fire in the room.

"But we have nowhere else for them to stay.

"I have been on the housing waiting list with Homes4U for 16 months and we are still silver band. We have been told we are not overcrowded."

She added: "I don't want my children to be living in this area. They don't go out and play because they prefer to be inside.

"When you hear of people coming over from Ireland and getting a place to stay immediately it seems unfair."
