Children on course for injury

CHILDREN playing on a Barry golf course are putting themselves at risk of serious injury from a golf ball.

Members of Brynhill Golf Club regularly report seeing groups of youngsters hanging around on the course - and there have been a few near misses.

There is also a concern that youngsters may fall into one of the many ponds scattered around the course, but signs warning that it is private property are often ignored.

Gareth Tinnuche, club vice captain, said: "Over recent weeks, and especially during periods of fine weather, groups of young children between two and eight in number have been found trespassing on the golf course.

"The ages of these children range from as young as five to 15 years. When spoken to by members, all appear to be either oblivious to, or uncaring of, the risk and danger they put themselves in by being on the course.

"It is a fact that should a golf ball strike anyone in full flight, then they would be at risk of serious injury or even death."

The club is working with Barry police and has uged local parents to monitor their children's whereabouts carefully.
