New face on force

IT'S all change at the top for police in the Vale of Glamorgan.

Superintendent Josh Jones is leaving his position as Divisional Commander for the Vale of Glamorgan to take up the position of Deputy Divisional Commander at Cardiff.

Supt Jones has been Divisional Commander in Barry for the past two years and recently represented the Division at 10 Downing Street, where the success of the police in the Vale was recognised by the Prime minister.

In his 18-year career, in both uniform and CID, he has also worked in Swansea and Rhondda Cynon Taff.

He has policed major events including the European Summit in Cardiff and the Greenpeace incident in the Bristol Channel, where protestors boarded a ship.

Supt Jones said: "Being in charge of policing in the Vale was always my ambition, but what has struck me in my time here is the overwhelming sense of community.

"The people of the Vale have a local police service that they can be proud of. It is honest, visible and in the criminal's face. We want the villain living in fear - not the community.

"The close working relationship with the local authority and others in the Community Safety Partnership has been critical in making the Vale a safer place.

"I leave a Division on top of its game and at the top of most police league tables. But I know policing is much more sophisticated than tables.

"It is about bringing villains to justice and being part of the community. That is what the police in the Vale are best at."
