Bad sign

I WAS shocked to see on Friday, May 6, a large Welcome to Dinas Powys sign erected at the junction of Cross Common Road and Longmeadow Drive.

The sign is the same size as the one used on the main Cardiff to Barry road.

Not only has the small green been desecrated but also it seems to have promoted Cross Common Road, which is a narrow country lane, into a primary route to Dinas Powys.

The sign is a large, ugly carbuncle, which many residents feel is a waste of taxpayers" money.

To take the sign down would obviously incur further costs.

However, after the "accident black spot" walkabouts that seemed to be all the rage in the 1990s, we would like to see the other side of the sign read a cautionary message - perhaps "narrow lane" or "drive carefully". The Cross Common Road and Sully Road residents were the largest group that attended the black spot walkabouts.

Since then, nothing to improve road safety on Cross Common Road has been done, despite the increasing number of vehicles using the road.
