Food Co-op toasts second birthday

THE award-winning Heart of Gibbonsdown Community Food Co-op is celebrating its second birthday.

And to mark the occasion, members are holding a party at the Gibbonsdown Community Centre, Ramsey Road, Barry.

It takes place next Thursday, May 19, starting at 11am.

Everyone is invited to come along and join in the fun.

Since it began, the Food Co-op has continued to supply people of Barry with fresh fruit and vegetables at affordable prices on a weekly basis, to help promote a healthier lifestyle.

A bag of fruit or vegetables costs just 2, with the selection of fruit and vegetables subject to seasonal changes. Through the summer season and during Christmas and Easter periods, salad bags are also available

During the past two years the Food Co-op has gone from strength to strength with new volunteers coming on board.

As an organisation, it was recently entered for the Vale Voluntary Sector awards.

The Co-op came away first in the Algebra Award for New Organisation of the Year, runner-up in the Arbuthnot Optician Award for Health and Social Care, and overall winner of the Vale of Glamorgan Council Award for the Voluntary Organisation of the Year.

The volunteers would like to take this opportunity to thank all customers past and present for their valued support.

They would also like to welcome any new customers who wish to take up the offer of purchasing fresh fruit and vegetables at affordable prices.

For more information contact Les on 07980 948376 or Sarah on 07709 979083, or call in at Gibbonsdown Community Centre on Thursday mornings between 10am and 11.30am.
