Man tries to abduct girls

A MAN tried to drag two ten-year-old girls into a lane as they played near their home in Barry Island.

The attempted abduction happened near Phyllis Street at 7.15pm last Friday.

One of the girls was grabbed by her hair, and the other girl was dragged by her hand, but they both managed to escape by kicking and screaming. The man ran off and the girls ran home to tell their parents. They were distressed but did not require hospital treatment.

Residents of Phyllis Street were shocked to hear what had happened.

Kim Copestake, whose home backs onto the lane, said: "I won"t allow my kids to go anywhere now unless I"m with them.

"It"s every person"s worst nightmare to have this happen on your doorstep."

And Jane Moor, who has a seven-year-old daughter, said: "It"s frightening. I think this is the worst thing that has happened around here.

"I can"t remember anything else like this."

The man is described as aged around 40 to 50 with grey hair and a "crinkly" face. He also had a cut above his right eye and was wearing a red T-shirt and blue jeans.
