BRIDGEND TOWN 2 Barry Town 1
BARRY TOWN club captain David Loosemore scored twice in the match against Bridgend Town, but unfortunately one was an own goal - his second in three games - and it was to prove costly.
After the frustration of the postponed Ely Rangers match at White Tips Stadium, Treforest, the Bridgend clash was an even tougher challenge in the Motaquote Welsh League Division 1 on Friday evening.
Cohen Griffiths" team looks to have already given the Coychurch Road faithful a season to remember.
Despite being given an early fright in the opening seconds, Bridgend battled back on what was a very heavy pitch.
Barry deservedly took the lead mid-way through the first half, when Loosemore fired the Dragons 1-0 up.
The ever-improving Kiyagi blasted just wide in the 35th minute, but by this point Barry were on the back foot.
In the final minute of the first half, a rash challenge by keeper Sutton earned him a yellow card, and the resulting corner from a free-kick ended up in the back of the Barry goal after being knocked into his own net by Loosemore - his second own goal in three games.
The second half began as the first had ended, with Bridgend on the attack. They were rewarded with a 56th minute goal, which ultimately proved to be the winner.
However, in the final quarter of the match, Barry Town responded valiantly and had numerous chances to score, including several shots that were cleared off the Bridgend goal line.
In many respects, last season"s relegation battle was a barrel of laughs compared with this season, but the club has some terrific youngsters who hopefully have a bright future ahead of them.
l Barry take on Taff"s Well this Saturday at Treforest, and finally, the oft-postponed match with Ely Rangers is now scheduled to be played on Tuesday, May 10, for what could be the last game in Treforest.
l Fans are asked to attend a meeting at the Castle Hotel pub in Jewel Street on Monday, May 16, to discuss the progress made by the recently elected steering committee, and matters concerning the football club.
