A MUM is counting her blessings after a mystery good Samaritan saved her young son"s life.
Justean Bennett, of Herbert Street, Barry, was frantically trying to help her four-year-old Reuben, who was choking. As she became more desperate, a man who was passing stopped his car and came to the rescue.
Justean, a 32-year-old nurse, said: "I have never felt so awful before - it was terrible. Reuben would have died without the assistance of the man who stopped."
The panic started as Justean was driving her young family through St Fagan"s one morning during the Easter holidays.
She had given Reuben a hard mint when they were stationary in the car. He was in the back, while his brother Ethan, aged seven, was in the front passenger seat.
Justean said: "I thought Reuben had eaten the sweet, but he must have kept it in his mouth for a few miles as we drove along. I suddenly heard him make a funny noise in the back of the car and I slammed on the brakes.
"I knew what to do because of my training, and I slapped in between his shoulder blades. The couple in the car behind had stopped as well," Justean explained.
"The man performed the Heimlich Manoeu- vre on Reuben and saved his life.
"The man was great. I did not get their names."
