SATURDAY, APRIL 16, 2005 - FIRST TEAM - WELSH LEAGUE DIVISION I
DINAS POWYS 1 MAESTEG PARK 1
MAESTEG came to the Murch with the formidable record of having won their last 10 games - so this was a battling performance against an in-form side with Dinas having the opportunity to win the game in the last minutes.
In the first half neither side could manage any clear-cut chances. The best Dinas moves came from David Mwasigallah on the left who put over a number of good crosses from the by-line but no-one could convert the chances created.
From one such cross Nathan Hosgood headed wide and then a 25-yard shot from Haydn Fleming scraped the post.
Maesteg also had half-chances with Steve Conaty and Robert Walters looking dangerous.
The first half ended with defences on top, subduing the opposing team's forwards.
Maesteg started the better in the second half with Kurt Bettles clearing a Maesteg corner.
On the hour a good Dinas move on the right side saw Haydn Fleming passing to Nathan Hosgood, but his goalbound shot was deflected by one of his own players. Disaster struck for Dinas in the 67th minute when the normally reliable Richie Johnson fumbled a Maesteg punt into the area and David Lewis was on hand to tap in.
Dinas did not let their heads drop and fought back strongly - but they had to wait until the 86th minute when a Dinas corner was played short to Jason Cowan, his cross was headed by Kurt Bettles and Gary Wager in the Maesteg goal could not reach it as it went in at the angle of the upright and crossbar.
Still Dinas came forward and another Jason Cowan cross was almost converted by Steve Herniman, but the ball ran just wide.

SECOND TEAM - WELSH LEAGUE RESERVE EAST GRANGE
QUINS 1 DINAS POWYS 2
DINAS emerged as victors in this keenly-fought game with both sides giving their all in an entertaining match.
Dinas started strongly and went close with good efforts from Webb and Davies, but it was the Quins who opened the scoring when Brian Shoudroy capitalised on a Shaw mistake in the heart of the Dinas defence to put the home side ahead.
Dinas fought back strongly and equalised on 35 minutes when a cleared ball from a corner fell to Webb just inside the Quins half, Webb beat two men and brilliantly lashed the ball into the net from 25 yards to level.
With 20 minutes remaining Lamb beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper to put Dinas ahead.
Lamb had two excellent chances to extend Dinas' lead, but both efforts went agonisingly over the bar.
Dinas comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to record an excellent victory that keeps them on the title trail.
It was a superb performance by all 11 Dinas players, who once again wore their hearts on their sleeve for the teams cause. Man of the match Lee Webb.
