There's no place like Rome, as Lee picks up silver

BARRY boxer Lee Selby has won a silver medal for Wales in a major tournament in Rome.

Lee travelled to Italy on April 14 to represent his country in a multi-nation boxing tournament with participating countries including France, Italy, Norway, Denmark, plus England and Wales.

Lee reached the final by defeating the Italian champion in the semi-final, and met the French champion, eventually losing to him by a couple of points.

Lee had the Frenchman on the canvas in the first round and it was a close bout throughout.

Lee has won many tourneys, including four WABF, two NABC and three WABA titles.

He is the current Welsh junior featherweight champion, and along with his brother Andrew is a member of the Welsh squad.

His next outing is in the Four Nations event in Scotland in June, where hopes are high for success. Along with Andrew, Lee has a bright future and could be the next star out of Wales.

Lee started his career at Rhoose ABC and is now with Splott ABC where he is trained by Pat Mahony.

Lee is 18 years of age; Andrew is 16 and the current British champion.
