Duo pound it out for Jamie's charity

TWO Barry men finished the London Marathon together, while holding the Welsh flag aloft in memory of victims of cancer.

Paul Adamson and Ceri Binding from Barry were running in memory of Paul's son Jamie, who died of leukaemia.

They were also running for Megan Ashford and Ken Bennett.

Ceri and Paul will raise several thousand pounds from this event alone for the Jamie Adamson Memorial Fund, and more events are planned.

Paul said: "The atmosphere was amazing, and that helped to keep everyone going - but I have to say that I would not have made it to the finish line without Ceri's help.

"I was really struggling and he kept telling me to carry on. I was virtually walking to the finish line.

"Around four miles I had to go to the toilet, and I was held up because a woman passed out in the toilet. I had to sprint to catch Ceri up and managed to catch up at around eight miles.

"At one stage a woman who must have been in her seventies came past me and patted me on the back for encouragement. It was quite demoralising - but we passed her on the way to the finish!"

Ceri and Paul finished with a time of five hours 15 minutes.

Paul said: "I was a bit disappointed with the time, but at least we finished. We saw a Japanese man sprinting to the finish and he was being cheered on - but he ran out of steam and we ran past him.

"I am glad we just managed to beat the rhinos who run every year for charity.

"I said I would never do this again when I finished - but that was just the emotion at the time. I would like to beat the time we clocked, but there is a five year waiting list if I don't run for charity.

"I feel surprisingly good. I ache a bit, but I thought I would feel a lot worse after more than 26 miles.

"After the race we were given a free massage by the sport therapists from the charity Children with Leukaemia who we were running for.
